How to situate our practices when working context-specific as an artist, architect or urban planner? How to take into account the needs and questions rising from the localities in urban planning, and when preserving and documenting our cultural environment? How does bias and norms affect urban planning, decision-making, and art curating in the suburbs?
Lähiölaboratorio is a collaboration between Museum of Impossible Forms and participatory urban planning bureau FEMMA Planning. The collaboration started in May 2021 in response to the need to situate our practices and critically reflect on the planning policies and their socio-political and cultural effects in the urban suburbs of East Helsinki.
Lähiölaboratotio offers a platform for translocal connections with the aim to foster dialogues, context-based learning and community building for practices such as urban planning, art, architecture, and for people around Kontula suburb and other similar neighborhoods in East Helsinki.
Lähiölaboratorio consists of different events, discussions, presentations and experiments.
The program will be updated during Spring 2022 on the Museum of Impossible Forms’ webpage and at https://femmaplanning.com/
