Improv Session VIII: Jaak Sikk and Outi Pulkkinen

  • Museum of Impossible Forms (map)

Museum of Impossible Forms is happy to announce the second Season of the M{if} Improv Sessions*, curated by Sergio Castrillón.

For our inaugural Improv Session, Jaak Sikk and Outi Pulkkinen explore the dialogues between experimentation and tradition:

Jaak Sikk's improvisational work encompasses the use of a wide range of up to date piano playing techniques developed all over the instrument. Also, his involvement within the exploration of body performative elements are translated into his musicality, taking to the extreme musical expressivity not only in what the spectator listens but also in what it is seeing during his performances.

Outi Pulkkinen approaches elements of the Finnish folk traditions through the process of improvisation using her versatile voice and her jouhikko. Both mediums allow her to create sonic atmospheres that juxtapose noise with clear tone, as well as the interaction of abstract and atonal melodies with defined scales used in some of the Finnish folk music. Outi collaborates constantly with different artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.

The event continues with our regular practice of Blind Date Jamming, where members of the audience may ask other audience members and/or the invited guests for the opportunity to 'Jam' or play a short improvised piece together.

Welcome.
