OCCAM OCEAN - OCCAM XXVI (2018)
Enrico Malatesta presents Eliane Radigue’s Occam XXVI (2018), for two bowed cymbals and a frame drum.
French composer Eliane Radigue is renowned for her pioneering electronic music, in particular with the ARP Synthesizer. Her compositions are defined by micro-events due to subtle overtone shifts that dance above a seemingly static tone, with a profoundly moving result. In 2005, Radigue began composing for acoustic instruments: first Naldjorlak, her grand trio for two basset horns and cello, and now the ever-expanding Occam Ocean series.
Enrico Malatesta is an Italian percussionist interested in experimental research on music, performance, and pedagogy. He explores the relation between sound, space, and movement, with attention to the multi-material possibilities of percussion instruments. This research places a strong emphasis on the material’s potential to produce a multiplicity of information
through simple actions, the motion and experience of listening, and the sustainability of the presence of the performer.
PERCEPTUAL GEOGRAPHY - FOR MARYANN AMACHERPerceptual Geography is a new solo live project by Thomas Ankersmit for Serge Modular synthesizer, based on the pioneering research of - and dedicated to - legendary American sound artist Maryanne Amacher (1938-2009).
Maryanne Amacher is an iconic figure in the experimental music world. She studied with Stockhausen and collaborated with Cage, but is mostly known for a body of work that is uniquely her own. She was drawn to extremes; from a whisper to a hurricane of sound. Her work crossed boundaries between science, music, and art. Amacher’s research on perception, psychoacoustic phenomena, sound spatialization, and expanding the role of the listener, form the basis of Ankersmit’s new project. In a time when seemingly everything is consumed via screens and headphones, this is a performance that can only be experienced in the present moment and actual, physical space.
Amacher and Ankersmit first met in New York in 2000 and became friends in her later years. He considers her one of his greatest influences. Ankersmit’s instrument, the Serge Modular synthesizer, was developed by Amacher’s partner Serge Tcherepnin, who also designed instruments for her.
CLARA DE ASÍS & LAURI HYVÄRINEN
Clara de Asís is a Spanish composer and guitarist based in France. She develops an approach to sound that highlights simplicity, non-intervention and active listening as means of music making. Her works display an extreme precision and intuitive openness ; both distinctive of Clara de Asís manner, that involves a dedicated attention to sound on its details and its most pure forms.
Lauri Hyvärinen uses guitar as his main sound source. His sound and music related activities are of theoretical and practical nature, of which improvisation remains as his primary medium and interest. Hyvärinen utilises the possibilities of improvisation, compositional and minimalist structures in search for shared and intensified social and spatial constructions.
Museum of Impossible Forms is a cultural space, located in Kontula, Helsinki. It is a contested Space and it represents a contact zone, a space of unlearning, formulating identity constructs, norm-critical consciousness and critical thinking. Impossible Forms are those that erase and facilitate the process of transgressing the boundaries/borders between art, politics, practice, theory, the artist and the spectator. For 2019-2020, Museum of Impossible Forms operates under the curatorial theme of ‘The Atlas of Lost Beliefs (For Insurgents, Citizens and Untitled Bodies)’

Museum of Impossible Forms is accessible by lift with thresholds up to 4cm on the way. The toilet has no thresholds but is not spacious enough to meet accessibility standards. The nearest accessible toilet is located at Kontula metro station.
