Welcome to this autumn’s first CuMMA DS lecture on the 17th of October!
Presenting his research project “The Economy of Living Things”, London-based curator and writer Osei Bonsu will draw upon fields of visual art, archaeology, music and literature to reveal an alternative map of modern migrations. Taking as point of departure the emergence of video art as a new frontier of documentary form, “The Economy of Living Things” is concerned with how artists capture the constant flow of bodies and the movements of plants, animals, artefact and other cultural products across real and imagined borders.

Osei Bonsu is a British-Ghanaian curator and writer based in London. His activities encompass exhibition programming, publishing and cultural strategy. He writes about developments in contemporary art for publications such as Artreview, NKA Journal and New African Magazine among others. In 2017, he will curate the 10th edition of Satellites, a multi-site exhibition at Jeu de Paume (Paris) and CAPC: Centre for Contemporary Art (Bordeaux). Bonsu focuses on questions of progress and the conception of modernity against the backdrop of social, cultural, and economical transformation in the 20th and 21st centuries. Presenting the his research project “The Economy of Living Things”, the lecture will draw upon fields of visual art, archaeology, music and literature to reveal an alternative map of modern migrations. The exhibition cycle is concerned with the constant flow of bodies and the movements of plants, animals, artefact and other cultural products found in everyday life.
