Museum of Impossible Forms is pleased to announce the appointment of curator

Giovanna Esposito Yussif as Artistic Director

Giovanna Esposito Yussif brings to M{if} her substantial transnational, research-led curatorial practice. Her considered and daring curatorial articulations suggest ways of working that strongly align with and strengthen M{if}’s aims. Giovanna’s work presents both a nourishing and dynamic force in advancing decolonial, critical, and socially engaged debates in Finland and further afield.

Giovanna’s programmatic direction underlines diasporic knowledge(s), translocal experiences and epistemic plurality as necessary conditions for the collective wellbeing. Her starting proposition for M{if} is to study the notion of “radical geographies'' as a militant methodology for transformative ecosystems aimed to foster dialogues, context-based learnings, and community building with different practices and peoples around East Helsinki. By sharing the artistic direction with diverse (un)disciplines and collectives, and developing new collaborations, exhibitions, gatherings, and in-site research commissions, Giovanna drives forward M{if}’s quest towards building anticolonial, antipatriarchal, and non-fascist futures.

About Museum of Impossible Forms

Museum of Impossible Forms (M{if}) is a cultural centre located in Kontula, East Helsinki and a platform to transgress the boundaries between art, politics, practice, and theory, and between artists and spectators. M{if} was founded in 2017 and has been shaped as an antiracist and queer-feminist project, a heterogeneous space developing experimental and migrant forms of expression, as a platform for experiences and a laboratory for critical thought. It is an expanding archive – real, imagined, and embodied- in constant flux. M{if} has hosted numerous events and significant interventions through cinema, performance, music, spoken word, discourse, visual arts, and activism-based practice, discourse, and pedagogy. Due to its commitment to decolonial work, Museum of Impossible Forms was awarded the Tutkijaliitto Award in 2019 and the State Art Prize 2020 in the field of multi-disciplinary art by The National Arts Council and the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike).
