Radikaalit Ristipistot työpajat / Radical Cross-stitch workshops

Radical cross-stitch is part of the craftivist movement, showing that feminist activism can take many forms, including craft. The workshops want to bring forth cross-stitch as an art form, show its versatility, as well as its ability to be political and radical. The gatherings follow the form of feminist sewing circles, being also a place for relaxed socializing and discussion.

Museum of Impossible Forms is proud to screen Lizzie Bordon’s Born in Flames, as part of the November edition of Society of Cinema Screenings.

Lizzie Borden’s groundbreaking feminist science fiction film imagines a near-future socialist United States, where women are still subject to repression and exploitation. A radical guerrilla group called the Women’s Army sets about to crush the patriarchal system and infiltrate the media. Made on a tiny budget and accompanied by a brilliant post-punk soundtrack, the films portrayal of the politics of gender, race & class make the film as relevant now as it was in the 1980s.

At 19:30 Abhinit Khanna will present #ArtWorldMemes in his talk, Rise of TikTok Celebrities & Meme Culture in India. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and a brief TikTok meme-making workshop.

At 21:00 M{if} will open the dance floor with an immersive audio-visual set by Amrish Kondurkar (Filth Avenue) and music mixed by Abhinit Khanna.

In Practice: FAR Night School: What does ‘decolonization’ mean to you?

Decolonization has become a buzzword in academic and activist conversations in Finland and abroad. However, the debate about what it means in relation to individual, collective, institutional and structural changes in academia and society remains under-discussed. Inspired by Tuck and Yang’s article “Decolonization is not a metaphor” (2012), Dr Leonardo Custódio – descendent of enslaved people in Brazil, the largest former Portuguese colony – reflects on his own relationship with coloniality and what “to decolonize” means in his own personal, scholarly and activist trajectory.

Performance {LAB + Improv} Sessions

The following iteration is a joint evening with our two ongoing projects, Performance LAB, curated by Vishnu Vardhani; and the Imrov Sessions, curated by Sergio Castrillión.

This evening, we introduce and welcome five performers who arriving from a spectrum of schools of performances, electronic music, dance, and improvisation who weave and enmesh their practice with each others to create new performances and meanings.
