Gesture IV: Bread Stories / Leipätarinoita
by Heidi Hänninen
Organised by Museum of Impossible Forms
To participate with and involve those who live amongst us is the Fourth gesture of Hospitality.
Along with community artist and activist Heidi Hänninen from Kontula Art School (KAS!), the Museum of Impossible Forms will work with sister institutions (D-Asema, Kontula Library, Luuppi – Kontula Youth Center ) within Kontula to host a series of workshops in Kontula.
We will discuss forms of thinking and molding experiences related to bread and hospitality in different cultures. Materials used will be dough clay made from flour, salt, and oil. The sculptures made with this can be fired on Saturday 10:00 – 13:30 as a part of Bread Omens.
All workshops free and open to public.

Gesture IV: Bread Stories / Leipätarinoita is a collaboration between Frame Contemporary Art Finland and Museum of Impossible Forms, as part of the public programme Gathering for Rehearsing Hospitalities, taking place in Helsinki, Finland, 9–14 September. It brings together local and international arts audiences for a week of interactions and dialogues.
Heidi Hänninen (M.A / M.F.A) is a community artist with a background in art education and sculpture. She has studied monumental painting in St. Petersburg, and has been making wall-paintings in Finland and abroad. She uses streetart as a method of communication for community art. Heidi is currently working on a multilingual research project ”Itä-Helsingin uudet Suomen kielet” – developing new art methods for how to deal in the school classes of children from various cultures by valuing different languages. Heidi lives and works in Kontula where she has initiated a community art school KAS!. The aim of this long-term project is to bring people from different backgrounds together and prevent the conflicts on the area through working towards common aims.
Museum of Impossible Forms is a cultural space, located in Kontula, Helsinki. It is a contested Space and it represents a contact zone, a space of unlearning, formulating identity constructs, norm-critical consciousness and critical thinking. Impossible Forms are those that erase and facilitate the process of transgressing the boundaries/borders between art, politics, practice, theory, the artist and the spectator. For 2019-2020, the Museum operates under the curatorial theme of ‘The Atlas of Lost Beliefs (For Insurgents, Citizens and Untitled Bodies)’
Museum of Impossible Forms is a safer space. It follows safer space policies to create a welcoming, inclusive, awesome environment.
Events at the Museum of Impossible Forms are completely free and accessible without prior booking.
Museum of Impossible Forms is accessible by lift with thresholds up to 4cm on the way. The toilet has no thresholds but is not spacious enough to meet accessibility standards. The nearest accessible toilet is located at Kontula metro station.
