We at M{IF} Society of Cinema are honoured to host homeboy Khadar Ahmed at our M{IF} Society of Cinema artist talk on February 8th.
Khadar is a Finnish-Somali scriptwriter and director. He was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1981 and came to Finland with his family at the age of 16 as a refugee.
Khadar, a self-taught filmmaker, won the short film screenwriting competition in 2007 with his script ‘Citizens’. The competition was organized by the Finnish Film Foundation and Yle. ‘Citizens’ was shown and awarded at many film festivals, among them the Locarno International Film Festival, where the film won the Leopard of Tomorrow Prize.
In 2015 Khadar began the Cinefondation writers residency program in Paris where he developed "The Grave Digger". This project will be his feature film directorial debut. Principal photography commences later this year in Djibouti.
Khadar's latest short film "The Night Thief" has been selected to Aguilar de Campoo film festival in Spain and the Göteborg film festival.
We will screen three of Khadar's shorts followed by a discussion with Khadar.
